Arboreal snakes are those snakes which literally hang around in trees and bushes. The Rough green snake anchors it's body around the leaves and twigs of bushes. Bigger arboreal snakes like the Rat snake use their ventral scutes (large bottom scales) for climbing up tree bark and lying on branches. Arboreal snakes are able to forage in the bushes and trees catching and eating their food on the limb. Though they are well suited for this high life in the trees, arboreal snakes can be found on the ground as well.
